Here are some of the best baits to use on Lake Austin near Austin, Texas
Jigs
Jigs are a favorite on Lake Austin. Probably because there are a bunch of really big mini lobsters, or rather crawfish. If you've ever been by the edge of the water at night or early morning with a flashlight, you can see quite a few of these big dudes walking the shallows in search of food.

Frogs
Frogs are an absolute favorite when the conditions are right on Lake Austin. There's nothing more satifying than when you skip a frog under a dock or under a tree out of sight and hear the explosion while retrieving it. Wait 2 seconds and slam that hook and hold on. Lots of giants are caught like that here and there's nothing better.

Example of a frog, the Ribbit Frog.
Crank Baits
These are some good lures to use as there are lots of shad, bluegill and other species of fish. A deep diving crankbait is best to use along the deep river channel edges where lots of big bass are caught with this presentation.

Worms
These are easy to use and catch lots of bass here. All you need to do is run around and find some good grass growing in 5-12 feet of water and chunk a worm around it with it either Texas-rigged that's weightless or with a small bullet weight. You'll catch plenty of bass doing this.
