Lake LBJ Fishing Report - September 5, 2007
On the water September 5, 2007 · Lake LBJ · by Bryan Cotter, Texas Hawgs
Decided to fish the LBJ jackpot tournament on my big 4-0 birthday. Keith came with and we had a little fun and a unique situation happened while out there. 18 boats all took off right at 5:30pm and we headed to an area that has been producing a few fish as of late but small, but I just wanted to try to get on a limit early. There was only 1 fish to be found there though and it was kinda by accident, hitting a fluke while reeling in for the next cast. I did say fluke. We fished a few more areas before heading to one of my old reliables and it was an area we should have started on, landing 3 good ones. At 10 minutes to go, and only 4 fish, we headed in. Since we had a couple minutes to spare, we stopped at the point before the ramp and I took a long cast out with a jig only to see my partner cast over me. I moved the jig maybe a foot when he came across my line. When he did, I slammed a good hookset to mess with him and his line was wrapped up on mine. When he was trying to untangled it, I just felt that the line was a little heavy when I set the hook so I just reeled up the line and low and below, the 5th keeper was on it. LOL We actually had a chance for something and we came awefully close. 4 places were paid and we were barely out of the money at 5th with only 1 pound separating us from 1st place. Close! Maybe next time...
