A chatterbait, or bladed jig, has a hex blade that makes the jig dart and vibrate hard. It rips through grass and triggers reaction strikes, making it one of the best moving baits for vegetation-heavy Central Texas lakes in the pre-spawn and fall.

How to fish the Chatterbait (Bladed Jig)

  1. Add a swimbait or craw trailer to match the forage.
  2. Cast to grass or cover and let it sink.
  3. Reel steadily so the blade vibrates and thumps.
  4. Rip it free when it grabs grass — that snap draws strikes.
  5. Reel-set into the fish.

Retrieve: Steady retrieve through and over grass; snap it free of vegetation to trigger reaction bites.

Where it shines

Cover: grass, wood; structure: grass edges, flats, laydowns; clarity: stained, clear.

When to use it

Best seasons: Spring, Fall, Winter → Pre-Spawn

Best conditions: Wind, Spring Warm-Up, Cloud Cover
