Choke Canyon Fishing Report - June 30, 2009

Hit up Choke Canyon on the last day of June with a client. Water temps ranged from 84-91 with air temps not too bad in the 90's but with the little bit of breeze made for a nice day weather wise. Fishing was a little tougher than it has been but we still managed 30 bass. The largest went over 7lbs with all the rest between 2-5lbs. Several baits played a roll in the bites including 10" worms, flukes, crankbaits and a Stanley Ribbit frog. Best 5 was around 24-25lbs. Pretty much hit most of the main lake targeting grass or chunk rock. Fish are still shallow with some monsters lurking. We spotted 2 over 10 pounds just hanging out in the grass and one of those could have swallowed a 12lber. It was huge. lol We also saw about a 3 foot long big catfish burrowing in a hole in 2 foot of water. Couldn't get it to bite a power worm though. 8) This is still a great time to get out on the water not only to fish but observe the giant gators (and lots of babies everywhere), turkey, hogs, deer and all kinds of other wildlife.
