Choke Canyon Fishing Report - October 8, 2012

Hit Choke Canyon to practice for an upcoming tournament. The bite was on big time at first light. I went to an area I haven't been to in a while and first cast with a crankbait, a 7.5 pounder slammed it. After battling that nice one, I threw back in and was hammered again, this time I knew it was much bigger with my line screaming off. I finally got her to the boat and it was a heavy 11. What a beast. There were other boats in the area so I quickly slid her back into the water hoping nobody noticed. I then picked up a jig and when that hit the bottom, my line took off again and I brought in one over 5. I decided I found a little something...23+ pounds in 3 casts...lol Time to find some other areas. I went to an area that was hot in the middle of summer and found that there were still fish there. I was still catching them on crankbaits but the real big ones that I was catching before flipping the area were not around. The lake has dropped since then so it must have moved them out. I was still able to catch a few good quality ones though in the 3-4lb range. After a bit here, I basically just went around flipping and pitching everything I could find. I found that the fishing is pretty slow outside of a few good areas but once you find one of those areas, it's lights out and fun, fun... Throughout the day, I was able to catch fish on most everything I threw. Crankbaits, creature baits, worms, jigs and shaky heads were the main baits and that produced a 30+ pound 5 fish bag. Good times!
