Lake Austin Fishing Report - March 16, 2013

Lake Austin has been hit or miss with most trips catching 12-30 fish per day. Weights have been all over as well from the mid teens to over 30 pounds. Bed fish have accounted for most of the heavier weights when finding some females on beds. Monday the 18th found some big girls around beds but not ready. Within 3 docks found around 8 large ones from 6 lbs to over 10, but my clients could only manage 1 at 6 lbs.

A couple nights later was the first Wednesday night jackpot out there so I invited Jerry from my bass club, Big Sandy Creek, to come fish it with me. Well, it started out slow but Jerry finally hooked a good sized one in the area I've been catching and seeing some big ones. It went 7.52 lbs and was our anchor fish. Before the end of the tournament though, I ran those docks for the 2nd time after it was pitch black. I hit the first dock where the big fish from Monday were and got hammered only bring back half the lizard when I set the hook. I knew there was a big one there but couldn't get it to bite again. I moved to the next dock and placed it on one of the beds an 8 pounder was on Monday. As soon as my lizard hit bottom, it was nailed and I landed a 4.5 lb bass but it was the male. I flipped right back in and got slammed. I set the hook and had her on a second but the hook came back almost straightened out without the lizard. That was a bummer and I couldn't get her to bite again either. I was bummed and knew either one of those fish could help get a win and maybe big bass but when it was all said and done, Jerry and I took 3rd place with 20.24 lbs and just over a pound from the win. Tight top 3 for sure. Good times though.
