Lake Travis Fishing Report - January 5, 2008
On the water January 5, 2008 · Lake Travis · by Bryan Cotter, Texas Hawgs
Fished the Austin Reel Bass Club Tournament from 7am till 3pm. Bite was a little tougher than weeks past probably being we just got out from under the coldest spell of the winter. We caught all of our keepers on shallow crankbaits and jigs, a pattern that's been working pretty well as of late. When time was getting near to running out, I needed one more good keeper, especially after losing a nice one on the CB and then breaking off on a big one under a dock on the same. I decided to go back to our second spot that we started on and immediately hooked up with another nice one right off some steps going down into the water on a deep wind blown ledge. The exact same spot the one in the morning came from. The next cast my partner made to that spot, he hooked into a nice one too but it pulled off his spinnerbait. At weigh-in, I ended up with 11.62 and my partner ended up with 3.65 good enough for 2nd place over all and I got 2nd place individual. Nice day, but a little tough, especially after the wind kicked up and knocked the batteries down on the trolling motor from fighting it.
If you are looking for a great bass club to join, I would highly recommend Austin Reel. It's a great Christian club that's run very nicely.
