Choke Canyon Fishing Report - October 20, 2007

Fished a 2-day tournament on Choke this past weekend. Fishing was really slow compared to other trips this time of year. I think it had something to do with a cold front coming through two nights before. I took my sister on this trip to enjoy some time with her for her birthday. The 1st day was slow catching 7 keepers, weighing in only 11.76 pounds, putting us in 3rd place for the day. We had to buckle down on Sunday to try to catch up to the day one leaders who had 15.14lbs, about 3.5 lbs ahead of us.

Starting out, I headed to an area that has been producing in weeks past. I hooked up quick with a 3 pounder and then one close to 6. We scratched out a limit there and I decided to go hit my honey hole that I found last month. It paid off. My sister pitched in a fluke to about a foot of water and hooked up immediately with a nice 2.5lber. We went just down the bank to a small cut and I saw some activity on the edge in about 6 inches of water, threw in my frog and was slammed as soon as it hit the water. I drug the second big 5+ pounder of the day out of the stickups, where it was too shallow to get my boat. That fish brought us up close to 18 pounds, which hopefully was enough. We hit a few more spots on the way back to weigh-in but the few we found weren't big enough to help out. We ended up with 29 pounds for 2 days and it was enough to edge out the day one leaders by .63 of a pound and win the tournament. Nice.
