Lake Austin Fishing Report - March 3, 2026
On the water March 3, 2026 · Lake Austin · by Bryan Cotter, Texas Hawgs
Hit up Lake Austin and the fishing is really starting to heat up. You can catch fish in pretty much any depth. The bigger ones are both shallow and deep and some have even finished spawning already given the abnormally warm winter we had. You can throw pretty much anything you want right now as well with soft plastics probably catching the most for me with sometimes little to no movement. When you think you are going slow enough, you could probably slow down. lol
Moving baits like spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and crankbaits are working as well. Today, I caught over 3 dozen with the best 5 going mid 20s. My biggest was a 6.6 stud. I had several giants following my bait around but none were in a feeding mood it seemed. I came across one absolute giant that I must have spooked off a bed as I also could not get her to bite. If I did, you would have heard about it in the Toyota Sharelunker program. lol
If I didn't have a tournament coming up on this lake, I would have been more specific on the baits/lures that I used. Super fun day and it is only going to get better out there.
