Kicked off a three-day guided bass fishing trip on Lake Falcon, the legendary big-bass border lake down near Zapata, Texas. There were four guests, so I brought in my good friend Steve and we split into two boats. The spring bite wasn't near as strong as Falcon usually fishes this time of year, but we made the best of it, as always.
We started in an area that consistently produces big bass year after year, and we were catching them pretty quick while missing a few bigger fish along the way. Eventually my client got what he came for: a solid Lake Falcon largemouth that went 6.07 pounds. We threw some crankbaits but leaned mostly on soft plastics - worms, craws and creature baits - and the craw worms clearly outfished everything else.

Back at the ramp, Jason's fish turned out to be the biggest bass between our two boats. I talked with some other anglers I know who had been fishing Falcon for five days, and nobody had found anything bigger - so we knew we were on the best fish the lake was giving up that week.
