Stillhouse Hollow Fishing Report - May 16, 2009

Went to Stillhouse Hollow for a half day trip and the fishing started out good. Showed up to the lake around 6:15 to find a nice calm breezy lake with some cloud cover. The forecast called for clear skies with 8mph wind with a front that was to come through after noon. That would not be the case though as we soon found out. We started working a tree line that normally produced fish using jigs, dropshots and flukes with a few hits but no takers. Decided to move to a rock cliff and it was a good move. We got hit on crankbaits, jigs and flukes. Most fish were small but then a good one decided to hit. This was a strong fish and stripped out quite a bit of drag only coming to the surface once on the other side of the boat and then went back to stripping line. Fun stuff. We finally landed her and she went 8.5lbs. Great fish. We finished working the ledge with a few more takers and headed to another tree line with a 12 foot ledge. We quickly hooked into a few and then suddenly the wind and rain kicked up. It got nasty quick. We got in around 9:30.

After my clients left, somebody else in a boat proceeded to sink it on the point beside the ramp. I talked to 2 others at the ramp and we all helped this poor guy get his boat on the trailer. We barely floated this boat out with just the front tip sticking up and the motor. Close to completely going under but we were finally able to get it out of the lake. Dangerous. One of the guys Butch had to swim out around the back of the boat to keep it going on right. Nuts!
